Darth Vader might be the end of Star Wars‘ most lethal assassins – If they can’t be the end of one rogue Jedi.

Star Wars: Inquisitors #4 finds Darth Vader staring out across the void of space from the bridge of The Devastator. There, he ruminates on the rise of the Galactic Empire and the sway that it holds over the galaxy, yet he cannot help but espouse his disappointment with the efforts of the Inquisitors standing alongside him. As Darth Vader points out, all their attempts to slay the Jedi Knight Tensu Run have been for nought, and if they can’t bring his life to an abrupt end soon, they will suffer that very fate for themselves.

The band of Force-sensitive assassins known as the Inquisitors, or Inquisitorius, were originally created for the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game all the way back in 1987. Of course, these early Inquisitors are now part of the non-official Legends canon, leaving them to be reimagined as per the versions that first appeared on the animated series, Star Wars: Rebels. Though the Inquisitors are commanded by the enigmatic and ominous Grand Inquisitor, they ultimately answer to Darth Vader personally.

Marvel Comics’ Star Wars: Inquisitors picks up with the eponymous villains hunting after the survivors of the Jedi massacre that occurred as a result of the infamous Order 66, which turned every Clone Trooper into an extra lethal agent for the Galactic Empire. Following the mass slaughter of Jedi across the galaxy, only a handful managed to escape and make new lives for themselves, largely in secret. As such, hunting these surviving Jedi down became the Inquisitors’ one and only goal.

One of the most important battles from the entire Star Wars franchise is finally getting the spotlight treatment it deserves for the very first time.

Despite having killed numerous Jedi before, the villains of Star Wars: Inquisitors have so far been incapable of cutting down their main target – Tensu Run. This surviving Jedi has made it his personal mission to rebuild the Jedi Order and has gone to great lengths to evade and overpower his adversaries. Tensu Run is even responsible for taking the hand of the Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother in one of the series’ most brutal fight sequences.

Created by George Lucas, Star Wars began in 1977 with the then-eponymous film that would later be retitled Episode IV: A New Hope. This Empire was overseen by Darth Sidious/Emperor Palpatine, who was aided by the cybernetic menace known as Darth Vader.In 1999, Lucas returned to Star Wars with a prequel trilogy that explored how Luke’s father Anakin Skywalker became a Jedi and eventually succumbed to the dark side of the Force. This, of course, is what led him to become the aforementioned Darth Vader.Lucas would sell Lucasfilm and Star Wars to The Walt Disney Company in 2012, and two years later, Disney declared the entire Expanded Universe – consisting of novels, comic books, video games and more – non-canon. The new era of Star Wars canon was bolstered by the sequel trilogy, which kicked off in 2015 with The Force Awakens. This trilogy saw a new generation of heroes band together to take down the First Order, an Empire-like regime that rose from the ashes of Palpatine’s original Empire. The faction was led by Supreme Leader Snoke and later Kylo Ren, the son of Han and Leia and the grandson of Darth Vader.Outside of the prequel, original and sequel trilogies, Disney experimented with Star Wars anthology films such as Rogue One and Solo. When Disney+ launched in 2019, the company also expanded into live-action television with The Mandalorian, which paved the way for The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, Andor and more. The streaming service also housed the revival of The Clone Wars for its final season and a spinoff called The Bad Batch.As for the Expanded Universe, while those stories are no longer canon, fans can still revisit them under the Star Wars Legends banner.
