The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Meet Naruto in New First Look

[[{“value”:”

The much-anticipated crossover between IDW Publishing’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Viz Media’s Naruto just released a special preview of the upcoming issue.

Anime News Network released six preview pages from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto #1. The first image shows a ninja scroll with the faces of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi and April O’Neil, and behind the scroll is the backdrop of the New York City skyline – which seems to imply that, in this story, the TMNT’s NYC and the Village Hidden in the Leaves exist in the same world. Other images show a young Team Seven circa some point after the Chunin Exams, and likely just before the Sasuke Recovery Mission, since Tsunade is already the Hokage of Konoha.

IDW’s solicit for the issue reads, “It’s the coolest ninja matchup you could have ever dreamed of, had you dared! The Heroes in a Half-Shell meet the host of the Nine-Tailed Fox in the crossover everyone will be talking about. When teenage reporter April O’Neil has a clandestine meeting with Tsunade, the leader of the Hidden Leaf Village, it garners the attention of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. They aren’t the only ones who are wondering what the two women were discussing, though. The sinister Foot Clan have their own interest in April’s visit, as they think she might hold the valuable information on mutation research being conducted by the scientist Baxter Stockman. With April caught between the forces of the Hidden Leaf Village and the Foot Clan, it can’t be long before the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show up to lend her a hand!”

Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto is one of the most popular manga of all time, spawning a franchise that includes the Naruto anime and Naruto: Shippuden manga and anime series, several movies, novels, the spin-off sequel Boruto (both a manga and an anime), video games, and even stage plays. Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles follows four anthropomorphized turtle brothers; Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello. It’s one of the most successful comic franchises outside of DC and Marvel, and in recent years has undergone a resurgence in popularity with films like Teenage Mutant NInja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
