Director Ridley Scott to Release Three Brand-New Series

Critically acclaimed filmmaker Ridley Scott will soon enter the world of graphic novels. Scott will lend his renowned world-building skills to three new original graphic novel series which will be released next year.

Scott Free, Scott’s film and television production company, will team up with Mechanical Cake for three graphic novel series: Modville, Hyde and Nick. Mechanical Cake CEO Jesse Nergon announced that Scott, who is heralded as one of the greatest science fiction directors of all time, will lend his meticulous eye and world-building skills to the projects, which will also include comic book legend Dave Elliott and top-tier artists Bill Sienkiewicz, Chris Weston, Dan Panosian, Brian Rood and Hendry Prasetya. The first of the three series to be released is Modville, which will be available for pre-order in March 2025 along with first-issue previews of the other two series, Hyde and Nick. Modville is a sci-fi/Southern Gothic crime drama that stars AI humans, called mods, in a future New Orleans. Hyde imagines a world where Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Mr. Hyde” did not die, but lives beneath the streets of London and conducts experiments on others. Lastly, Nick is a foundational Yule war story, set within the world of the arcane Norse legends.

The partnership between Scott Free and Mechanical Cake opens up exciting new opportunities for Ridley Scott to share his artistic vision in a new medium. “Mechanical Cake is a terrific company,” Scott said in the press release announcing the partnership. “They understand the art of graphic novels. As an artist and painter, these projects are exciting to me, and I look forward to collaborating with Jesse, Tom, Dave, and the Mechanical Cake team.”
