Wonder Woman scribe and one of the current architects of James Gunn’s DC Universe, Tom King, has unveiled a first look at his upcoming Wonder Woman #14. The issue, which the writer teases will be the “biggest” in his run, hits comic book shelves this October.

King took to Instagram to share first-look images of Wonder Woman on the beach heading to the water for a swim. “First image revealed from WONDER WOMAN #14. This is the biggest issue of the series so far, and maybe the biggest of the whole run all the way to the end,” King wrote. “Masterpiece artists @daniel_sampere_art and @tmorey are on every page of this oversized 30-page ALL IN issue that launches us into the next years of stories. I’ve written some big moments, and in comics, I’m telling you—this is the one everyone’s going to be talking about,” he continued.

The Instagram post echoed King’s sentiment regarding Wonder Woman #14 in a recent interview with CBR, where he stated that the upcoming book is one of his biggest projects yet. “I’m very proud of number 14 and excited for fans to see it,” he said. The writer revealed that the issue would finally reveal the identity of Trinity’s father. King’s run on Wonder Woman might not have happened at all, with the writer revealing he was a little reluctant at first to helm the series. “So many people have done Wonder Woman, you know? And so many have messed her up, so it was intimidating,” he said.

King explained why he decided to take on the project, stating, “I was getting too comfortable and decided it was time to do something mainstream again.” King revealed his approach to writing an iconic character like Wonder Woman. “I wanted to recreate that feeling of awe children get when they first see Wonder Woman. I wanted young girls to see beyond the shiny bracelets and tiara,” he said. “She is a warrior, she’s a rebel, and she is determined to bring justice to our world — that’s what I want people to remember.”

One week after King’s Wonder Woman #14 arrives, a new vision for DC’s most iconic female character kicks off in Absolute Wonder Wonder #1 on October 23. The Absolute Universe continuity will run parallel to the regular DC Universe as part of the publisher’s upcoming All-In initiative. Kelly Thompson will write the series, with art by Hayden Sherman. The Absolute Comics presents bleak and brutal depictions of DC’s iconic superheroes in a universe born of Darkseid energy.

Tom King’s Wonder Woman #14 will arrive in comic book shops on October 16, 2024.
