The Strongest Villain in the DC Universe Just Joined Absolute Power

[[{“value”:”

The following contains major spoilers for “Happy Endings” from the pages of Batman #152, on sale now from DC Comics.

DC’s Absolute Power event has just been invaded by the most powerful being Apokolips has to offer.

“Happy Endings” brings readers back to the far-off world of Czarnia, where Batman and Catwoman have been stranded in Amanda Waller’s secret, personal stronghold. There, the heroes are accosted by a band of Waller’s best soldiers, though they aren’t without recourse of their own. Unfortunately, no one involved is prepared for the threat of Darkseid, and once he appears, even the Dark Knight knows the only option left is to run.

A Classic DC Trope Just Saved Superman’s Son from a Fate Worse Than Death

Superboy has finally escaped the clutches of Amanda Waller and the Brainiac Queen, and it’s all thanks to a classic DC Comics trope.

The New God known as Darkseid made his first full appearance back in Jack Kirby and Al Plastino’s 1971 cult classic, Forever People #1. Born to Heggra and Yuga Khan, Darkseid is the unquestioned ruler of Apokolips, known by many as the God of Evil himself. Despite his immense, seemingly limitless power, Darkseid has long plotted against the heroes of the DC Universe, usually in a bid to acquire or uncover the fabled Anti-Life Equation.

Over the years, various iterations of Darkseid have been at the center of some of the biggest storylines in DC history. These range from his countless confrontations with Superman to the “Death of the New Gods” in 2007 to waging all-out war on Earth as a whole in DC events like Final Crisis. In what might be Darkseid’s most infamous modern-day storyline, 2015’s The Darkseid War by Geoff Johns, Darkseid’s apparent war with the Anti-Monitor was revealed to have been largely orchestrated by none other than Darkseid’s own daughter, Grail, who had hoped to trick the Anti-Monitor into destroying her father outright.

Absolute Batman will offer a fresh take on the Dark Knight, and writer Scott Snyder answers questions on what to expect from his villains in an AMA.

DC’s Absolute Power event stands as the culmination of Amanda Waller’s long-running plot to dismantle, destroy and ultimately dissolve any so-called superheroes that the world has to offer. To that end, Waller has aligned herself with all manner of villains, primarily the Amazo android known as Failsafe and the Brainiac Queen. Waller has even gone so far as to call upon the Crime Syndicate in the hopes that they will help tip the scales of battle even further in her favor.
