The following contains major spoilers for Batman: Off-World #5, on sale now from DC Comics.
DC Comics’ Dark Knight has just met the cosmos’ most terrifying duo, and they might be more than he can handle.
Batman: Off-World #5 finds the titular hero in the middle of a fight for his life millions of lightyears away from his home back on Earth. Batman is more than capable of defending himself. However, there are threats that even he cannot comprehend. Specifically, these are the Blakksun Twins, Wrath and her unnamed brother. Wrath on her own would be bad enough considering her seemingly limitless strength, yet her brother’s murderous whispers are likely the even greater threat to the Caped Crusader’s life.

Jason Aaron’s Batman: Off-World brings readers back to the early days of the Caped Crusader’s career for what is touted as his first trip across the cosmos. The series finds Batman taking up the role of an unlikely freedom fighter after being thrown into the middle of a derelict alien prison. There, the Dark Knight puts his own life on the line for those of his fellow inmates against an army of supersized threats, all while spreading the message of hope and justice that Batman ultimately stands for.
As the official series synopsis from DC Comics explains, “A routine night in Gotham City for a young Batman proves to be anything but routine when the crime-fighter is confronted with a sort of foe he’s never faced before—one from beyond the stars! A universe of possible alien threats leads Batman to make a daring decision—to venture alone into the far reaches of the cosmos for the very first time, where the Dark Knight will face the fight of his life!”
The Justice League Just Turned Their Backs on Batman
DC’s Batman: Dark Age just gave the Justice League one of the best reasons to turn their backs on the Dark Knight.
Prior to the release of Batman: Off-World, Aaron opened up about the series and why writing Batman is such a big draw to him personally. I fell in love with comics because of DC,” Aaron explained. “The first books my young, beardless self ever plucked from a grocery store spinner rack were the New Teen Titans and World’s Finest and Batman. Books that opened the door to a universe of stories that would quite literally change the course of my life. So it is with great honor and excitement that at long last I get to make my proper debut as a DC writer, with a Batman story that takes a young Dark Knight on his own first journey into the far, wondrous reaches of the DC cosmos.”
