Introduced in the pages of 2022’s Edge of Spider-Verse #5 in Steve Foxe and Kei Zama’s story “Counterfeit Catwalk,” Cooper Cohen’s life was irreparably altered when he saved his fellow high school student and secret crush Peter Parker from being bitten by a radioactive spider. When the spider bit Cooper instead, he was imbued with all the powers that belonged to Spider-Man. In the weeks that followed, Cooper came to terms with his secret identity as Web-Weaver while also coming to terms with his parents’ own blatant bigotry, which drove him out of their home and into the arms of his loving aunts, Laurie and Mel.

Since then, Cooper has gone on to make a name for himself as the Web-Weaver, having taken on villains ranging from the likes of Morbius and Kraven the Hunter all the way to interdimensional threats such as Shathra’s insectile army. Cooper has also developed a pseudo-romantic relationship with Albert Moon, the Silk of their world, albeit only as their costumed crime-fighting alter egos. This is a striking parallel to the romance between Peter Parker’s Spider-Man and Felicia Hardy’s Black Cat early in their shared misadventures.

Cooper is just the latest Multiversal figure to be caught up in the events of Venomverse Reborn, which themselves are at the center of Marvel Comics’ ongoing Venom War storyline. Thanks to competing visions of the end of the world, both Eddie Brock and his son Dylan are fighting for what they believe to be the future of the Marvel Universe. Unfortunately, each of them is convinced that the other is the cause of this potential calamity, driving them to take up arms and symbiotes against one another on the battlefield.
