McFarlane Toys has unveiled a brand-new figure inspired by one of the most iconic Batman comics ever. The Armored Batman Patina Edition Gold Label 7″ scale figure, based on the Caped Crusader’s appearance in The Dark Knight Returns, is now available for pre-order.

The toy company revealed the McFarlane Toys Store-exclusive Armored Batman figure on its official X (formerly known as Twitter) account. The DC Multiverse figure shows the protector of Gotham donning a gold-plated variation of the armored suit he wore in the final issue of The Dark Knight Returns to take down Superman with a little help from a one-armed Green Arrow. The figure is now available for pre-order for $29.99 and will ship this September.

Penned by the legendary Frank Miller, with art by the author and Klaus Janson, 1986’s four-issue comic book miniseries The Dark Knight Returns is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential Batman stories ever told. The story follows an alternate Batman who returns to crime-fighting a decade after retirement. Now in his mid-fifties, Bruce re-starts his seemingly never-ending mission with opposition from both the Gotham PD, now led by his detractor, Commissioner Ellen Yindel, and Ronald Reagan’s United States government, with his long-time ally Superman in its employ.

The Dark Knight Returns notably brought back the Joker and Harvey ‘Two-Face’ Dent and introduced the female Robin, Carrey Kelley. The comic series spawned a direct animated adaptation, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, which debuted in 2012. The series also heavily influenced Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises and Zack Snyder’s depiction of the character in the defunct DCEU, especially in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

McFarlane Toys recently announced a life-size replica of Batman’s cowl as seen in Tim Burton’s groundbreaking 1989 movie. Pre-orders for the collector’s piece launched on July 24 at select retailers. The Batman 1:1 Scale Cowl Replica stands approximately 24.5″ tall and includes a display stand.

Paying homage to another iconic Batman era, McFarlane Toys also unveiled a brand-new “Blast from the past” DC Direct Batman 1966 1:6th scale resin statue, now available for pre-order. Based on Adam West’s Batman from the beloved 1966 TV series, the figure comes with a Batarang attached to a cable and features the TV show’s logo on the figure base. The “Blast From the Past” figure arrives this fall.
