Skybound officially reveals the next chapter for the Energon Universe – Including a glimpse of things to come for the G.I. Joes and their allies, including the Transformers.

At the official Energon Universe panel at this year’s Comic-Con International: San Diego, Skybound and Image Comics, in collaboration with Hasbro, unveiled the trailer for the ongoing events of the Energon Universe. The trailer was released during a panel that included industry icon and Void Rivals co-creator and writer Robert Kirkman, TRANSFORMERS‘ Daniel Warren Johnson, G.I. JOE‘s Joshua Williamson, and Skybound SVP Sean Mackiewicz.

Apart from the trailer, the panel confirmed the upcoming tenth printing of Void Rivals #10 over a year after its initial release back in June 2023. The landmark reprint will come shortly before the release of G.I. JOE #1 from writer Joshua Williamson, artist Tom Reilly, and colorist Jordie Bellaire on November 13, which is set to expand Skybound’s Energon Universe beyond anything fans have seen before. The new series will include a host of beloved characters from the franchise including Duke, Cobra Commander, Baroness, Tomax and Xamot, and fan-favorite villain Destro.

The Energon Universe kicked off with Void Rivals before quickly incorporating characters and concepts from both the Transformers and G.I. Joe universes. Apart from Void Rivals, Transformers, and the upcoming G.I. JOE, the Energon Universe also includes several limited series including Cobra Commander, Duke, Scarlett, and Destro, as well as the Energon Universe 2024 Special which contains stories from all three tentpole properties that make up the wider franchise.

As of now, Skybound is running a unique ad campaign for G.I. JOE called the “Choose Your Side” initiative. By logging onto the associated website, rreaders can pledge their loyalty to either the eponymous team of heroes or their longtime nemeses – Cobra. The process for pledging allegiance requires uploading a personal photograph, which may be featured alongside others who declared their loyalty within the ad pages of G.I. JOE upon its release. The campaign runs through September 8 and is open to any users who are at least 18 years or older, reside in the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada (excluding Quebec), and have a verified Skybound Insiders account.
