One of the Best Horror Comics of All Time Finally Has an Official Sequel Series
[[{“value”:”
The world of James Tynion IV’s The Nice House on the Lake is back in a horrifying follow-up series from DC Comics.
Much like the name would imply, The Nice House by the Sea #1 opens to what should be a rather idyllic sight of Oliver Clay sitting on the beach at sunset. Unfortunately, this gorgeous locale just so happens to be one of if not the last of its kind, as Oliver and his fellow housemates are well aware. This, it turns out, is the end of the world, and the only reason Oliver or anyone else is living through it is because they reside within the picturesque corner of it crafted just for them by one of the very same invaders who turned the rest of the Earth into a fiery hellscape.

This particular version of the future was first glimpsed in the pages of 2021’s The Nice House on the Lake by James Tynion IV and Álvaro Martínez Bueno. In the original story, a group of twelve eclectic survivors are gathered together at a luxurious lake house by their enigmatic friend Walter. Soon enough, the truth about Walter’s extraterrestrial origins comes out, as does the truth regarding why he has brought his friends together – to survive the end of the world.
Throughout twelve issues, readers saw the mind-bending, physics-breaking lake house provide its inhabitants with everything they could ever ask for, save for a way out or a reprieve from the global destruction surrounding them. The series also toyed with the extent of Walter and his fellow invaders’ powers, as well as the impossible technology that afforded them such abilities. The Nice House on the Lake ended with a cliffhanger, in which it is revealed that the series’ cast of characters aren’t the only ones eking out an existence from within the confines of a controlled environment.
Batman: DC’s Strangest Imp Becomes an Official Member of the Bat-Family
One of the DC Universe’s smallest heroes saves the day and earns himself a place in the Bat-Family.
In April, it was confirmed that a follow-up series would be released, once again through DC’s Black Label line of titles. As seen in an early preview for the series’ first issue, the cast of The Nice House by the Sea has been gathered together by Max, a being much like Walter, who presumably shares the same general agenda as his predecessor. The series’ core cast is again comprised of experts in their respective fields, including the Doctor, the Writer, the Historian, the Actor, the Artist, the Priest, the Scientist, the Singer, the Politician, and the Mathematician.
The Nice House by the Sea #1 is on sale now from DC Comics.
