The following contains major spoilers for Power Girl #11, on sale now from DC Comics.
Power Girl‘s latest romance is sending her on a collision course with some of the most underrated gods the DC Universe has to offer.
After months spent facing off against the likes of roving Czarnians and Brainiacs, the titular hero of Power Girl #11 finally has some time to herself, which she is more than happy to spend with her new romantic interest, Axel Gust. Unfortunately, their aquarium date is interrupted by the emergence of a new superpowered threat, but that isn’t the biggest issue the couple has to face. As it turns out, this is the moment when both Power Girl — or Doctor Paige Stetler — and Axel discover that neither is who they say they are, although the latter is willing to explain himself with just one quick trip to Asgard.

Kara Zor-L (originally Kara Zor-El), better known as Power Girl, is one of the most storied figures in the entire history of DC Comics. When she made her introduction in the pages of Gerry Conway and Ric Estrada’s All-Star Comics #58 in 1976, it was revealed that Kara had been sent away from a dying Krypton as a child. Tragically, Kara’s ship was delayed along the way, leaving her to arrive on Earth decades after her cousin Kal-El, who had already grown up to become Superman.
In the years that followed, Power Girl found a place for herself among the ranks of the Justice Society of America, although that career was bound to be short-lived with the coming of 1985’s Crisis on Infinite Earths. After watching the Multiverse be destroyed and remade into a single, unified timeline, Power Girl was left to once again make a home for herself in a world she never truly knew. Worse still, further reality-altering events would reshape Kara’s entire history against her will, and when the truth was revealed during the events of 2005’s Infinite Crisis, it very nearly broke her.

One of the DC Universe’s smallest heroes saves the day and earns himself a place in the Bat-Family.
Since then, Power Girl has come to terms with her origin, even if she still struggles with some of how it continues to complicate her daily life. Things seemed to be taking a more ordinary turn when Kara first met Axel Gust in 2023’s Power Girl #1 by Leah Williams and Eduardo Pansica. Despite seemingly working for the Central Intelligence Agency, Axel maintained a relatively easy-going facade. As of now, however, it is clear that he is somehow tied to the realm of the rarely seen Asgardian gods of the DC Universe, whose return could have major implications for Power Girl’s future depending on why Axel is acting as their agent on Earth.
