[[{“value”:”
A year ago, Marvel shocked the comic book world with the introduction of Spider-Boy to the Spider-Man mythos. Now, in celebration of the end of the first year of Spider-Boy’s ongoing series, Marvel is introducing an all-new Spider-GIRL to the Marvel Universe in Spider-Boy #12!
It its press release for the new character’s debut, Marvel noted, “SPIDER-GIRL’s mysterious backstory will supersede even Spider-Boy’s shocking origin! Spider-Man is About to Risk Everything to Bring Back Spider-Boy
Spider-Man’s kid sidekick is no more, but he won’t be gone for long if Spider-Man and Madame Web have anything to say about it.
Who created the new Spider-Girl?
The All-New Spider-Girl (the first Spider-Girl, of course, was introduced over 25 years ago in a What If…? issue that introduced Spider-Man’s future daughter, May “Mayday” Parker. Later, the hero formerly known as Arana was briefly known as Spider-Girl in the present day, as well) was created by Spider-Boy’s co-creator, Dan Slott, and artist Michael Cho.
Cho is an artist famous for his retro designed covers, and so he was the perfect choice for a Silver Age-style character like Spider-Girl. Cho did a variant cover for Spider-Boy #12, featuring Spider-Girl swinging into action. Mark Bagley also did a variant cover with Spider-Girl, and Elizabeth Torque did one bursting with energy, as candy spills out of Spider-Girl’s pockets while she swings through the city.
Paco Medina, the regular artist on Spider-Boy, will draw Spider-Girl’s first appearance.
Spider-Boy Introduces Marvel’s Next Fourth Wall Breaking Supervillain
The latest villain to join Spider-Boy’s rogues’ gallery is a fourth-wall-breaking menace who could erase the hero’s life all over again.
What is going in Spider-Boy’s world when Spider-Girl shows up?
Spider-Girl is showing up in Spider-Boy’s life at an interesting point in Bailey Briggs’ life, as he has been questioning his place as Spider-Man’s sidekick, and has decided to try to see if perhaps he would be better off being the sidekick for a DIFFERENT superhero, and in this issue, Spider-Boy tries to see if he could become “The Boy Without Fear” by teaming up with Daredevil.
Of course, with Spider-Girl in the mix, Bailey’s life will be changing no matter whether he stays as Spider-Man’s sidekick or not. Spider-Boy was created by an evil mad scientist, and it will be interesting to see if perhaps Spider-Girl’s origins tie into the same sort of mad science, or if she is her own deal entirely.
Readers will get their first hint in October when Spider-Boy #12 is released.
