The following contains major spoilers for Wolverine: Blood Hunt #4, on sale July 24 from Marvel Comics.
Wolverine has just stepped into his latest reunion with another member of Marvel’s infamous Weapon X Project, and neither of them is walking away unscathed.
After fighting his way through hordes of the undead alongside his old ally Louise, better known as Nightguard, the titular hero of Wolverine: Blood Hunt #4 finds himself staring down yet another longtime compatriot. Unfortunately for both Logan and Maverick, this reunion is far from a friendly one, as the latter has joined forces with a particularly menacing creature of the night who has her own plans for what the future of the Marvel Universe should look like.

Christoph Nord, better known as Maverick, made his Marvel Comics debut in 1991’s X-Men #5 by John Byrne and Jim Lee. Not long after Nord began fighting on behalf of West Germany, he was forced to kill his brother, who was standing on the opposing side of the war. Though it seemed like his darkest moments were behind him, Nord would eventually be forced to take down a loved one again when it was revealed that his wife, Ginetta Barsalini, was a double agent when she attempted to take his life. This pushed Nord further into the life of a mercenary than ever before, ultimately landing him on the radar of the Weapon X Program, where he would meet Wolverine and various other heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe.
Louise made her first appearance in the pages of 2020’s Wolverine #1 in the story “Catacombs” by Benjamin Percy and Viktor Bogdanovic. Taking her code name from the sect of vampire hunters who raised and trained her, Nightguard crossed paths with Wolverine when she was kidnapped by a band of vampires who frequented the bar they were both staking out.
Marvel Announces New San Diego Comic-Con Panels, Booth and More
Marvel officially unveils their lineup of panels and events for this year’s upcoming San Diego Comic-Con, along with new experiences and merchandise.
Marvel’s Blood Hunt has proven to be the perfect opportunity for Wolverine and Louise to cross paths once more, albeit under rather unfortunate circumstances. After being possessed by the very first vampire, the demonic Varnae, Blade amassed a vampire army. By utilizing the powers of unwitting Darkforce wielders across the globe, Blade and his minions were able to black out the skies around the entire planet, leaving Earth ripe for a vampire takeover unlike anything the Marvel Universe has seen before.

Wolverine
Wolverine first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #180, where he battled the Jade Giant to a standstill, before joining Marvel’s X-Men in 1975. Since then, the short-tempered berserker with unbreakable claws has proven himself as one of Marvel’s most popular characters. The mutant hero was also the backbone of the X-Men film franchise, which ran from 2000 to 2020, and critics consider his solo film, Logan, one of the best superhero movies ever made.
Known as an unstoppable tank who can cut through anything, Wolverine isn’t technically one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes but he’s one of the deadliest characters on their roster. Even villains like Magneto and the Juggernaut have learned to be wary of Wolverine’s claws.
