EXCLUSIVE: Wonder Woman Writer Explores Revenge in New Series

[[{“value”:”

CBR can exclusively announce that Wonder Woman writer Michael Conrad will tell a dark tale of revenge and redemption in the Comixology Original graphic novel, Neptune. The novel is teased as “a bleak examination of the capitalist machine — and those trapped in its gears.”

Neptune stars Corey Harrison, a man finally freed from incarceration after serving 17 years for a violent crime. Haunted by his past, Corey seeks the truth surrounding the recent death of his brother and discovers a vast darkness surrounding his legacy. Comixology‘s press release for the book describes it as “violent and beautiful, grounded and hallucinatory.” Neptune will be released digitally on Sept. 3 on Comixology Originals, with Dark Horse Books publishing the print version, which will arrive in bookstores on Mar. 4, 2025, and comic shops the next day.

Michael Conrad has written for DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, and many other comic publishers over the years. Recently, he co-wrote Wonder Woman and Batgirls for DC. His original graphic novels Tremor Dose and Double Walker are available in print by Dark Horse. Neptune’s artwork is done by newcomer Nathan Ooten, an illustrator whose work draws influence from comics, film and fine art.

Conrad’s Neptune Graphic Novel Contains “Complex and Troubling” Themes

Neptune‘s writer, Michael Conrad, spoke about creating the graphic novel and dealing with its sensitive and mature themes. “Following books like Tremor Dose and Double Walker isn’t easy, I remain quite proud of both of those stories. With Neptune, I wanted to rip something from the headlines and address it in a graphic novel,” he said. “The result feels far less like ‘entertainment’ and more like observing a car crash, a thing you don’t wish to see, but can’t look away from. Nathan Ooten nailed it; each page manages to be at once a beautiful display of his multimedia approach to sequential art, and a profane representation of quite vile subject matter.”

Neptune wasn’t easy to create… the story contains a lot of complex and troubling elements, including incarceration, murder, human trafficking, and exploitation,” Conrad continued. “I hesitate to call Neptune a horror story, but it is most certainly horrific.”

Neptune arrives Sept. 3 at Comixology Originals and hits comic shops in 2025.
